Behavioral Health Therapy

Our behavioral health program helps your child build the skills they need to participate, regulate, and feel their best in everyday life—at home, at school, in therapy, and in the community. Through play-based, relationship-focused approaches (including DIR/Floortime) and practical, easy-to-use strategies, we support children and families in developing tools that truly work in real life.

what to expect from services at PMC

Our behavioral health services are designed to support your child’s participation, regulation, behavior, and overall well-being in everyday life—at home, in therapy, at school, and in the community. We use a play-based, relationship-focused approach, grounded in DIR/Floortime® principles, alongside practical, skill-building strategies informed by cognitive behavioral approaches. Together, these methods help children build meaningful skills while giving families tools they can use in real life.

DIR/Floortime®

and how it looks in therapy sessions

DIR/Floortime® is a child-led, relationship-based approach that focuses on meeting your child where they are and building skills through connection, play, and interaction. Rather than focusing only on stopping behaviors, we look at the why behind them, helping your child develop the underlying skills needed for success across settings In sessions, this means we:

  • Follow your child’s interests to create meaningful engagement
  • Build connection first, then support regulation, communication, and problem-solving
  • Use play and real-life interactions to help your child practice new skills
  • Support emotional development alongside behavior and participation

session structure, length of treatment & integrated care model

holistic, interdisciplinary, play-based care with involvement from your child’s full care team:

behavioral health, caregivers, PT, OT, ST, and RD

Sessions are active, engaging, and often involve both the child and caregiver. Parent and caregiver involvement is a key part of this model, helping you confidently carry strategies into everyday routines. Our behavioral health provider collaborates closely with your child’s PT, OT, and SLP to ensure everyone is working toward shared functional goals—such as improved participation, smoother routines, better regulation, and more successful therapy sessions.
