Meredith's Success Story: Swim Lessons at PMC

Meredith's Success Story

At 18 months old, Meredith began ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) swim lessons outside of PMC. Although she obtained the necessary skills for pool safety, she hated the water. This feeling only intensified after taking a break from swimming during the winter months that followed the lessons; Meredith lost her previously acquired swimming skills and instead acquired an intense fear of pools.

During her first swim lesson with Kelsey at PMC, Meredith screamed for 45 minutes straight. Kelsey patiently sat with Meredith beside the pool with her mom, observing Meredith's emotions and not forcing her to get in the water.

However, something magical happened during that first lesson. Kelsey discovered something that Meredith enjoyed: water puzzles. Integrating this activity into the lesson was transformative. From that point on, every subsequent lesson went better than the last. By the end of the third week of lessons, Meredith would enter the pool with a smile on her face, ready to learn and ready to play.

Throughout the following swim lessons with Meredith, Kelsey would utilize the animal alphabet puzzle to assist with arm movements for Meredith's front stroke. She also practiced floating on her belly and back, and even would practice blowing bubbles. By the end of the eight weeks, Meredith would kick her feet and move toys across the pool. Kelsey's patience, understanding and ability to observe Meredith's interests made the swim lessons a success.
