What is Feeding Therapy?

Feeding therapy helps teach a child how to eat or eat better. Feeding therapy typically occurs once or twice a week with intensive options available when medically appropriate.  Dependent on your child’s underlying issues, speech and/or occupational therapy would be recommended dependent upon whether the underlying issue is sensory, oral motor, or a combination of both.

COMPONENTS OF OUR FEEDING CLINIC

What To Expect

Feeding Clinic Group Therapy Information

Our 12 week feeding group encourages your child to progress in feeding therapy through the use of structured peer role modeling, positive social reinforcement, and individualized therapist support as they advance up a detailed 32 step sensory hierarchy to eating. This group will be led by a speech language pathologist and occupational therapist with training in the SOS Approach to Feeding to allow for a collaborative treatment approach. Food will be provided by PMC to allow for a wide range of foods, specifically chosen to meet the therapy needs of each child in the group. Your First Feeding Clinic Session

  • What to Expect

At your first appointment, the initial evaluation, a therapist will conduct an assessment to determine recommendations for a plan or care, as well as setting therapy goals that are determined in collaboration between therapist and patient (family/guardian). This appointment will take approximately 1 hour to complete. If you have any relevant information (medical history, scans...) you are encouraged to bring that material to this appointment for an in depth consultation. At this appointment the therapist will determine if feeding therapy is medically appropriate for any patient. Assuming that feeding therapy is appropriate, the recommended frequency of treatment (number of days per week and length of each session) would be discussed, and scheduled.
